SKILLS CHECKLIST WEB DEVELOPER FOR 2023
2023 is not far away. Now let’s wait to see what LinkedIn or other HR platforms has to say about potential employers. Here’s a 2022 insider web developer skills list. Some of these items can be used at any time. Others relate to tech industry trends.
HTML – Base Web Developer Skill
HTML is a timeless technology. HTML is considered to be one of the most important forms of web technology. You can’t be a developer if you don’t have it. It is also used by markup specialists to define the page’s structure.
HTML, you ask? It’s because it can be very helpful when you troubleshoot or debug. It’s almost like learning Latin. You won’t likely hear it spoken anywhere but it’s easy to understand in many languages. For example, a good grasp of HTML5 in countries such as the Netherlands can result in a yield of up to $54,000 per annum. You might be interested in upgrading your HTML skills. W3Schools Online Web Tutorials offers a variety of courses. They also cover Javascript, CSS, and other topics that are on our wishlist.
CSS & Responsive Website Design
These skills are vital for Front-end Developers. CSS is essential to Markup Specialists. It’s used both to set the layout and to give it an aesthetic appeal. ZipRecruiter and other writing service college admission reports that the average front-end developer’s salary varies depending upon the demand for specific web developer skills. In the US, the average front-end developer salary for CSS and HTML5 specialists is around $87.605. This is a clear indication that no one web developer skill can be used alone. When adding new skills to your arsenal, you should always consider the possibilities.
CSS can be used to combine with Bootstrap or Materialize CSS. CSS allows websites to become interactive. In contrast, responsive web design allows you to adjust your website in response to the device used by visitors. Most UI/UX designers know that responsive web design courses are part and parcel of a comprehensive CSS course. YouTube is full of great resources that provide targeted information. CSS is continually evolving, it’s worth noting. It is always worthwhile to check for new features in CSS. CSS has many surprises and new features.
Cybersecurity as a web developer skill
There are more threats and vulnerabilities online as more businesses go online. The web is the new battlefield of theft and information extraction. This has made cybersecurity a central focus in the wake of the pandemic.
IT professionals who have security certifications often earn higher salaries. Global Knowledge ranks the salaries of IT professionals with security certifications at 15% more than average. Consider getting certified in cybersecurity, vulnerability assessment, network security, and network security.
Algorithms/Data Structures – Great Background Web Developer Skill
While it might sound scary, an algorithm is nothing more than a set of steps to solve the problem. Every action performed by a computer is related to information (storage and processing, transmission, etc.). In order for algorithms to work effectively, it is crucial that the information be stored correctly. Data structures are how information is stored on computers.
Data structures and algorithms are essential to understand the solutions to common problems and general directions. Developers should also have a strong understanding of process tools, such as the Big O Notation.
This skillset can be especially helpful if:
- You are dealing with a problem that is familiar. Knowing the solution, its advantages, and disadvantages in different situations will help you determine the most suitable solution for your particular situation.
- It’s a non-standard issue. This may seem counterintuitive but having knowledge of the solutions to standard problems and analytical skills will allow you to develop your thinking process which will make it easier to find what you are looking for.
No matter the type of problem, algorithms and data structures can be used to quickly solve the problem in the most efficient way.
Design Patterns
Designs have been around since before the dawn of time. You can see it everywhere from clothing and buildings. BidForWriting says that “the idea of design patterns was first applied to software development by Ralph Johnson, Erich Gamma, and John Vlissides in 1994”. In the beginning, they introduced 23 object-oriented variants. Design patterns have remained an integral component of development since then. They had patterns like Singleton and Decorator in their original catalog. These patterns are now part of every developer’s vocabulary and skill set.
Design patterns are used to describe a repeatable problem and the solution. It is important to describe the solution in a way that developers can use it multiple times.
Let’s take the proxy as an example. A proxy is a pattern in structural design that allows you to substitute an object or place it as a placeholder. It grants developers access to the original object. This allows them to do something before or after they have received the request.
We chose to include this basic information because it was so important. Because Java engineers require knowledge of design patterns. Knowing it will hurt your chances of getting hired.
JavaScript
Yep. All the classics will be available. It’s difficult to imagine the Web with JavaScript. Most websites are interactive and draw users. JavaScript allows you to make your webpage interactive.
This programming language can be used to support everything from clicking a button to animation, to basically anything that occurs when your user moves their cursor around. That’s only the tip of the iceberg.
JavaScript continues to improve so that you can create a complete web app from start to finish using one language. Although JavaScript is primarily used to build frontend web apps, Node.js, a very close relative, is used for the backend. This allows you to create a whole website or app using just one language.
PayScale rates JavaScript coders as the second-highest-paid front-end developers, with average salaries of approximately $74,000 in the US.
Node.js – Backend Web Development Skill
Node.js will be next on our wishlist, as we promised in the above point. Node.js runs on JavaScript’s V8 engine. Node.js executes JavaScript code from outside of a web browser. It allows developers JavaScript to develop command-line tools as well as server-side programming-running scripts on the server side to generate the dynamic web page content. Node.js eliminates the need for developers to use separate languages to write client-side or server-side scripts. Node.js’ main benefit in web app development is that it expands JavaScript functionality. Developers can integrate the language with APIs and other languages.
Node.js has been used by major corporations such as IBM, LinkedIn, Microsoft, and Netflix. It is also useful for those who are applying to positions at these large companies.
Single Page Applications: Vue.js/React.js, and Angular.js
While most developers are familiar with single-page applications, it is not a new concept for many. A single-page web application (SPA), or web app, interacts with its users by dynamically writing new web pages with data derived from the server. Instead of the default web browser loading whole new pages, this allows the developer to be more familiar with single-page apps. The goal is to create native-app-like transitions.
With SPAs, page refreshes do not occur. Instead, all HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and CSS codes required by SPAs are either retrieved automatically by the browser or dynamically loaded. This is usually dependent on user actions.
A SPA can be developed using Vue.js and React.js. To show how important web developer skills can be to your career, Facebook, Twitter, Google Maps, Google Drive, and Gmail are some of the most used single-page apps.
Version Control – Git
Git is an open-source version control system. This makes it even more important, but still a valuable meta-skill. It’s used by almost all developers to track any changes to open-source or commercial projects. That is why we included it in our list.
Website creation isn’t a simple task. This usually requires a team of developers and project managers as well as QA engineers, business analysts, and any other stakeholders. Also, it is important to remember that any web application developer works on must be released within relatively short delivery cycles. This is why developers often make changes to files at regular intervals.
Developers use version control systems to track changes and ensure a consistent workflow. This allows programmers to easily access the files they have modified.
Chrome Developer Tools & Debugging
Chrome Developer Tools are an essential tool for front-end programmers. Chrome Developer Tools are becoming increasingly important with nearly 70% of internet users using Google Chrome. Chrome Developer Tools can be used to view the HTML/CSS/Javascript files, modify the CSS classes and alter the website’s appearance. Although the ability and skill to create websites or web apps for paper writers are great, there are always bumps. The more you can fix them, the more appealing you will be to potential employers.
